Heartsaver First Aid is a video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills to respond to and manage the first few minutes of an emergency until additional help arrives. Students will learn duties and responsibilities of first aid rescuers; first aid actions for medical emergencies, including severe choking, heart attack, and stroke; and skills for handling injuries and environmental emergencies, including external bleeding, broken bones, sprains, bites and stings. This course is designed for anyone with or without prior medical training including community members, teachers, industry or construction workers, and even police officers and firefighters.

Certification is valid for two years and is issued through the American Heart Association.
